Is Camera Market Reliable? What Happens When You Buy a Used Camera from Us
We've been selling second-hand cameras in Europe for six years. We'll tell you straight up how the warranty works, what we do to each unit before shipping, and what happens if something goes wrong.
If you’ve landed here, you’re probably thinking about buying a used camera from Camera Market and want to know, before spending €1,000 or more, what kind of store we are. We’ll tell you without marketing fluff or clichés.
Who We Are
Camera Market launched in Madrid in 2019 as a specialized marketplace for second-hand cameras. Today we operate in seven European countries — Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and an international .com domain — with unified stock and 24-48 hour shipping.
Unlike Wallapop or Vinted, we’re not a bulletin board where individuals post their listings. We buy the cameras ourselves (from individuals, professional photographers upgrading gear, stores closing down), run them through our internal lab, and sell them with our own warranty.
What We Do to Every Camera Before Selling It
When a camera enters our warehouse, it goes through six steps before appearing on the website:
- Identification and traceability. Each unit gets an internal ID. We keep the serial number, entry date, original seller (if B2B), and known history.
- Technical verification. Real shutter count, original battery with health percentage, sensor (dirty/clean/marked), screen (dead pixels, scratches), physical controls, mount, weather sealing if applicable.
- Deep cleaning. Sensor cleaning (wet or ultrasonic depending on the case), electrical contacts, card slots, viewfinder eyepiece.
- Functional test. 50 shots in different modes (manual, AF servo, burst), video test if applicable, WiFi test, real battery charge test.
- Photography and listing. Each unit is photographed on a neutral background, showing front, back, top, sensor contacts, serial number, and included accessories.
- Condition grading. We assign a grade from A (like new), B (visible use but technically perfect), C (visible scratches, technically perfect), D (technical defect — we only sell D if declared and discounted).
95% of the issues that used to generate claims in our early months (2019-2020) are now caught during this process. Cameras that don’t pass verification are returned to the seller or sold as “for parts” in a separate section with a steep discount.
The Warranty
Every camera bought from Camera Market comes with a 12-month warranty from the delivery date. The warranty covers:
- Technical defects not listed in the listing: intermittent AF failure, premature overheating, shutter issues, abnormally dirty sensor, dead screen, unresponsive controls.
- Labor and parts throughout the entire period, with no deductible.
- Loan of an equivalent camera if the repair takes more than 7 business days.
The warranty does NOT cover misuse (drops, water, internal tampering), consumable accessories (straps, lens hoods, original batteries after the first year), or cosmetic issues (scratches, peeling rubber, signs of wear already present upon receipt).
14-Day No-Questions-Asked Returns
If the camera isn’t what you expected, return it within the first 14 days from delivery without having to give an explanation. We’ll send you a prepaid return label by email, you drop it off at one of our collection points (or we call a courier to your home for €5), and we’ll refund the full amount to the original payment method within 3-7 business days after receiving it.
This policy is independent of the warranty. You can return it “because I don’t like the weight,” “because I thought it had an articulated screen,” “because I changed my mind.” We don’t ask.

Real Scenarios That Could Happen to You
- “I received the camera and the AF rattles in low light.” You call, email, or WhatsApp. We send you a prepaid return label within 24 hours. The camera goes to the workshop, gets diagnosed, repaired, or replaced with an equivalent unit. Cost to you: €0.
- “The camera works perfectly but I’m not convinced.” 14-day return, no questions asked. Customer refunded.
- “I wanted a camera with a grip, and when I received it, it didn’t have the grip mentioned in the listing.” You call, we document the listing error, refund the difference or cancel the entire order, whichever you prefer. The mistake is ours, we cover it.
Why This System Matters
Buying a used camera on a P2P marketplace (Wallapop, Vinted, eBay individuals) can be €100-300 cheaper than Camera Market. But if the camera fails in the first month, you have no one to turn to. If the AF has an intermittent issue, the individual seller won’t catch it in 5 minutes. If the battery has 30% health, they won’t tell you.
Our price is slightly higher because that difference pays for verification, warranty, and returns. For many buyers, it’s worth it. For others, it’s not — perfectly respectable. We’re not competing with Wallapop; we’re competing with uncertainty.
