We analyze a specific Fujifilm X-T5 unit in grade B that arrived at our workshop in 'like new' condition. A camera that remains a benchmark for its image quality and analog handling.

Lo bueno
  • Excellent image quality with the 40 MP X-Trans 5 sensor
  • Classic handling with intuitive physical dials
  • Robust build with dust and moisture sealing
  • Highly effective IBIS stabilization up to 7 stops
  • Great quality Fujifilm film simulations
Lo malo
  • Autofocus, though improved, is not the fastest in its class
  • Battery life is just adequate for long sessions
  • Buffer in long bursts fills relatively easily
  • No fast USB-C charging port for use while shooting

The Fujifilm X-T5 is, for many, the quintessence of what a modern mirrorless camera with a classic soul should be. It arrived in 2022 as the successor to the X-T4, and although it shares the same 40-megapixel sensor as the X-H2, its philosophy is radically different: here, physical dials rule, the viewfinder is central, and weight is minimized. Today we have a specific unit that has passed through our verification workshop, and we’ll tell you how it really is.

This unit, identified by internal code 6a1733b818170ee5c3c012ec, arrived in grade B, which in our system means it shows some signs of light use but is in excellent condition. After review, our lab has cataloged it as “Like new” in physical condition and “Excellent” overall. This is a camera that hasn’t seen much action.

Lab observationsPhysical condition: Like new. Overall condition: Excellent. No issues with screen, sensor, or focus.

Although we couldn’t read the shutter count or battery health — data not always accessible on all units — the visual and functional inspection revealed no abnormal wear. The dials turn with the precision expected from a Fujifilm, the tilting screen has no play, and the mechanical shutter sounds clean.

The model in general

The X-T5 mounts the 40.2-megapixel X-Trans 5 sensor, a back-illuminated CMOS that offers significantly higher resolution than its predecessor, the X-T4 (26 MP). This shows in the detail: RAW files allow generous crops without the image falling apart. The X-Processor 5 handles the data flow well, though it’s not a speed marvel.

The hybrid autofocus (phase detection + contrast) covers almost the entire frame with 425 points. In good light, it’s fast and reliable, but in low-contrast scenes or with erratic subjects, it loses some precision compared to competitors like the Sony A6700 or Canon EOS R7. This isn’t a serious issue for street, portrait, or landscape photography, but if you shoot sports or fast-moving wildlife, you’ll notice its limits.

Ergonomics are the big success. The top dials for shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation are a pleasure to use. The grip is small — don’t expect a DSLR’s hold — but with lightweight lenses like the Fujinon 23 mm f/2, it handles wonderfully. The 3.69-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder is sharp and fluid, though it doesn’t match the 5.76-million-dot resolution found on some rivals.

What works

Image quality is the strong point. At ISO 125-6400, noise is very well controlled, and the film simulations (Provia, Velvia, Classic Chrome, etc.) offer colors and tones that many post-production editors would envy. The 5-axis IBIS stabilization, with up to 7 stops of correction, allows handheld shooting at slow speeds that were previously unthinkable.

The compact and lightweight design (557 g with battery and card) makes it an ideal travel companion. The magnesium alloy construction and dust and moisture sealing give it a solidity that inspires confidence. The mechanical shutter reaches 1/8000 s, and the electronic one goes to 1/180000 s, enough for almost any situation.

What weighs with age

Autofocus, as we said, isn’t the fastest. In low light or with unpredictably moving subjects, the system can hesitate. It’s not a catastrophic flaw, but if you’re coming from a Sony A7 IV or Canon EOS R6 II, you’ll notice the difference.

The NP-W235 battery offers around 400-500 shots depending on use. That’s not bad, but on an intense day of photography, you’ll need one or two spares. The USB-C port is only for data transfer and slow charging; it doesn’t support fast charging while shooting, which is a drawback for those working in studio or on long sessions.

The buffer in continuous bursts (15 fps with mechanical shutter, 20 fps with electronic) fills after about 30-40 shots in compressed RAW. If you shoot long action bursts, you’ll have to wait a few seconds for it to clear. This isn’t a problem for most, but sports photographers will notice it.

Who is this unit for?

This specific unit, in grade B and excellent condition, is perfect for those looking for an X-T5 at a more adjusted price than new. The selling price in our market is 1524 €, slightly above the 30-day average (1510 €), but availability is limited: only 7 units on the market. The peer-to-peer (P2P) option is at 1238 €, a significant saving if you don’t mind the risk of a transaction without workshop warranty.

It’s ideal for street photographers, travelers, portraitists, and advanced enthusiasts who value the analog shooting experience and image quality over autofocus speed. We don’t recommend it for action or professional sports photography.

Verdict

The Fujifilm X-T5 remains one of the most attractive APS-C cameras on the market, and this specific unit shows that even in grade B, you can find nearly flawless gear. Its image quality, classic handling, and robust build make it an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable tool with personality. If ultra-fast autofocus isn’t your priority, this camera will give you years of satisfaction.
